Outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov returned a mandate to form a new Cabinet on behalf of GERB-SDS immediately after receiving it from President Rumen Radev on Monday.
"Mr. Zhelyazkov, you have shown wisdom and responsibility by resigning as a result of the mass protests across the country. But our society expects you, in addition to easing tensions, to continue to govern responsibly in accordance with the Bulgarian Constitution until a new caretaker government takes office", said Radev.
The folder remained in Zhelyazkov's hands for a few minutes, and he returned it empty. "These days mark one year since I successfully presented you with the cabinet I had formed, with the expectation that the National Assembly would vote on it. During this year, a government formed in the spirit of constructivism has accomplished a tremendous amount of work in terms of volume and significance and has fulfilled its strategic goals", Zhelyazkov told the president.
He emphasized that he would return the folder immediately to allow the constitutional procedure to unfold from here on. Zhelyazkov recalled that most of the political forces currently claim that the search for new legitimacy must go through upcoming parliamentary elections.
